As the largest regional network operator in Bavaria, Bayernwerk Netz GmbH secures the energy supply in large parts of the state and offers a comprehensive range of energy services. Around 3,400 employees at more than 20 locations work on a secure supply and the energy system of tomorrow. The company already transports over 70 percent renewable energy in its network.
The Challenge:
The energy transition presents distribution system operators with a variety of challenges. Technological innovation, major investments, regulatory adjustments and active customer engagement are needed to successfully manage the energy transition while at the same time ensuring grid stability and security. Bayernwerk Netz GmbH relies on digital primary planning of substations with primtech 3d to meet these challenges.
The solution
entegra developed the OSR+PRO Service, an AI-powered process for digitalizing existing stations. This highly automated service transforms point clouds from laser scans into highly valid digital models and closes the gap between “greenfield” and “brownfield”. Bayernwerk Netz GmbH successfully leverages this service to optimize its planning processes.
The Results:
Through the use of the OSR+PRO Service, 102 existing substations have been digitalized so far. The main goals of the project included:
– Identify and validate gaps in the as-built documentation
– Check clearances, lightning protection and the transformer oil containment systems
– Validate existing asset management data

Efficient planning and digitalization
Since 2017, the Bayernwerk Netz GmbH has been using primtech 3d, the intelligent expert tool for the digital and intelligent primary planning of substations. Over 60 new substations (“greenfield”) have been designed and realized since then. The documentation and digitalization of existing substations (“brownfield”) poses an increasingly significant challenge in the context of grid expansion.
